Fazenda Pinhal isn’t just about coffee—it’s about doing things properly. Nestled in Sul de Minas, this farm is a sustainability powerhouse, running entirely on solar energy and setting aside over two-thirds of its land for forests, wildlife, and pasture. In 2019, they were crowned Brazil’s most sustainable coffee farm, and they’ve been pushing boundaries ever since—rehabilitating injured birds, collaborating with local universities, and making sure their workers are well looked after (dental plans and all).

And the coffee? It’s a pulped natural, meaning the cherries get picked, pulped, and dried under the Brazilian sun for 7–10 days—bringing out that classic smooth, sweet profile. Expect a rich, full-bodied cup with all the chocolatey, nutty goodness you’d want from a top-tier Brazilian coffee.

About the name

We like to pay homage to the home of our coffee roastery when naming our beans. At some point "Big Man" became a genderless term that we would call each other when we worked at PEARL - a long gone but not forgotten Hackney Wick institution. 

The term (although used frequently in London slang) was picked up after one of our regulars, Michael, began to call our team members "Big Man" rather than learn everyone's name. Michael was a lovely chap who would come by every day and order a Latte with two sugars mixed into the espresso. He's a well known and beloved character of the Wick.

It seemed fitting to name these beans after him, you can put your two sugars in and still taste those big bold coffee flavours.
