Based in Brazil, this is a network of women producers working across different farms and regions, brought together to get more out of what they already do. Because for a long time, they’ve been doing the work without always seeing the full return.
So they built something better.
Cafeina links producers together, giving them more say in how their coffee is grown, processed, and sold. More control, more visibility, and ultimately, better pay for the work that’s already happening day in, day out.
No shortcuts. Just doing it properly.
In the cup, it leans classic Brazil but cleaner and more dialled in. Think chocolate, nuts, soft fruit, a bit of sweetness running through it. Easy to drink, but still holds up.
But the point isn’t just the profile.
It’s about shifting the balance a bit. Backing the people behind the coffee to have more ownership, more independence, and more say in how things move.
No big claims.
Just doing things a bit more fairly.
What about the name?
We like to pay homage to the home of our coffee roastery when naming our beans. At some point "Big Man" became a genderless term that we would call each other when we worked at PEARL - a long gone but not forgotten Hackney Wick institution.
The term (although used frequently in London slang) was picked up after one of our regulars, Michael, began to call our team members "Big Man" rather than learn everyone's name. Michael was a lovely chap who would come by every day and order a Latte with two sugars mixed into the espresso. He's a well known and beloved character of the Wick.
It seemed fitting to name these beans after him, you can put your two sugars in and still taste those big bold coffee flavours.
